Senior year comes at you FAST. Honestly, it starts before you are even officially a Senior!

At the tail end of Junior year, you'll start getting information and pushes to sign up for upcoming Senior events, and it can all be super overwhelming if you haven't really oriented your brain to start thinking about those things. It can quickly make you feel like you're behind before you even start!

When you do start looking at your checklist, often one of the bigger, more stressful items is Senior photos. A million questions start popping up:

What photographer should I chose? What's my budget?

What do I want to have included in my photos? WHO do I want included?

Wait, I don't have my cap and gown, jerseys, college choice yet??

WHEN DO I NEED TO SCHEDULE THEM??

Suddenly, what sounded fun and you were looking forward to seems like it might actually be the most stressful thing!

We can't have that :) I'm here to help! Let's walk through how to think through what you want for your photos and help you decide the big question: WHEN.

Season

First, let's talk about seasons. Are you super into summer, or happiest in a sweater and jeans? The season that matches the style of clothing that most feels like you should be a top contender.

Sports/Regalia

A HUGE part of the fun of a senior session is incorporating items that visually mark this time in your life. If you want to make sure you have your team jersey/gear, your full cap and gown with extras, etc. waiting until you have those in hand is a great choice. This is a big reason many Seniors choose to wait until the Spring for photos.

college decisions

If you want to wait until you have your post-graduation plans solidified so you can include merch from your destination, this is a great choice! If the fall is better for most other reasons except this, go ahead and schedule fall and ask me about adding on a Spring micro session to capture those Decision Day photos for the 'Gram!

your photographer

This isn't on a lot of Seniors' radar but it might be a bigger deal than you think--how easy is it to get on your photographer-of-choice's calendar? Senior year is busy busy, and if you're in the thick of sports or a theatre show and trying to match your schedule with your photographer's, it could get tricky. If you're open to booking in their slower season (or yours!) finding a perfect date can become way easier.

Senior Sunday

Senior Sundays on Instagram are so fun. If you know you're going to want your senior shots to post throughout the year, definitely schedule in the late summer or early fall so you have them back in time! This option also lets you get a jump on designing your graduation invitations/announcements, submitting photos to your yearbook committee, etc.

remember the micro

I'm gonna repeat this one--if you'd truly prefer a late summer/fall session, don't forget you can ask to add on a springtime Micro session to capture those few shots you couldn't get in the fall. This is a super easy and super affordable option to get the best of both worlds!
